On May 7, 2020, a dolphin was discovered on the shore of the Gelendzhik Bay in the area of Tonky Cape. Eyewitnesses reported this to the State Budgetary Institution "Veterinary Department of the city of Gelendzhik", whose employees, together with the veterinarian of CJSC "Gelendzhik Dolphinarium", went to the scene.
Three species of dolphins live in the Black Sea. This dolphin turned out to be an adult male of Azovka (Family: porpoises (Phocoenidae) Genus: Porpoises (Phocoena, Species: Phocoena phocoena)), about 1 m long.
Employees of the Veterinary Department and the Dolphinarium provided emergency medical care: injections of the necessary medicines were made. Blood was taken from the vessels of the caudal fin for further research in the regional veterinary laboratory.
After the manipulations, the dolphin was released into the sea.
