The history of the Gelendzhik Dolphinarium is a continuation of the history of the very first demonstration dolphinarium in Russia, the brainchild of the USSR Academy of Sciences of the Institute of Evolutionary Morphology and Ecology of Animals named after A.N. Severtsov.
